Off-GRID STYLE

What to wear at this year’s F1 grand prix? Fashion designer and reality TV star Whitney Port selects her favourite outfits for two of the spring stops on the 2026 calendar: Montreal and Miami.

Whitney Port is a Los Angeles-based fashion designer and reality TV star. The 41-year-old first made her name in a popular MTV series called The Hills. After working her way up through the fashion industry, in 2009 she launched her own fashion line, Whitney Eve. Nowadays she hosts the podcast With Whit and lives with her husband, Tim Rosenman, and their eight-year-old son, Sonny.

“These two Ferrari drivers – who regularly light up grand prix with their latest outfits – have become global style figures.”

The role of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in reshaping the fashion culture of Formula 1 has been enormous. These two Ferrari drivers – who regularly light up grand prix with their latest outfits – have become global style figures. Thanks to them, and the other drivers who follow suit, the paddock has now become a de facto catwalk.

The research bears this out. According to a recent report from SponsorUnited, apparel and accessories are now the sport’s fourth largest sponsorship category, attracting US$160 million in annual investment from major fashion brands.

On top of that, the huge popularity of the Netflix series, Formula 1: Drive to Survive, has lured millions of new fans to F1, many of them far more interested in the human side of the sport rather than the technology. No wonder fashion is such a key aspect of this sport.

I have worked in fashion much of my life, including launching my own lines. When it comes to sport, I love seeing athletes express themselves through what they wear off the field of play. In a sport like F1, where they spend so much of their time hidden away in helmets and race suits, this is more important than ever.

Inspired by the likes of Hamilton and Leclerc, I have put together outfits – both male and female – for two of the spring races on the F1 calendar. Whether you’re cheering from the grandstands, lording it up in the Paddock Club or celebrating Off Grid in a local Tifosi bar, these will place you firmly in pole position.

Miami Grand Prix, Miami

Women’s

Miami isn’t just “hot”, it’s a humid type of hot. I’ve leaned into light neutrals and crisp whites that reflect the sun, which will help stay cool when the sun and humidity peaks. I’ve paired these more sporty trousers with a feminine polo for a look that feels casual yet polished. Because you’ll be on your feet a lot throughout the day, I’ve opted for soft breathable, and, of course, Tifosi red. For the final touches a pair of cool sunglasses for the Miami sun and a small, chic bag, that won’t get in the way throughout the day whether it’s on the grid or at those post race celebrations.

Men’s

For the men’s look I’ve stuck to the same cool colour pallet. I’ve selected a relaxed blue shirt in a breathable fabric that will stay looking cool and smart both at the track and off the grid later in the day. I’ve paired it with a slightly baggy ivory jean. This creates an easy and classic silhouette. It’s a look that offers just the right amount of personality while remaining functional enough to handle the Miami heat from morning track entry through to the evening events.

Whitney Port Grey Dress full body shot 2

Canadian Grand Prix, Montreal

Women’s

The weather in Canada in spring can be a little unpredictable, so here I’ve opted for a monochromatic look with this grey dress. Comfort is a must when dressing for the races. This dress is both comfortable and cool during the day but also easy to layer over for when the temperature inevitably drops in post race evening activities. It also transitions well from day to evening – perfect if you’re heading straight from the circuit to bars or post-race plans without time to change.I love the blue drawstring detail that matches my vintage blue bag. To finish the look, I love these sporty flats.

Men’s

For the men’s look we are leaning into deeper tones and structured textures to match the women’s look. I’ve chosen a dark denim moment paired with a fresh and summery plaid shirt, that hints a little to the iconic checkered flag of the races. This outfit is the perfect choice for a “post race transition look”. Practical and cool enough for the grand stands but also perfect for the city’s world class celebrations after the race.
